Release of THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS CD,
clarinet and guzheng duo with Zhuyang Liu

Clarinetist Tim Hodgkinson joins pioneering explorer Zhuyang Liu as she develops a new chapter
for the venerable guzheng, with drones and extended techniques. Traversing lively conversations,
extraordinary timbres, and pensive reflections, Hodgkinson stretches out with free-wheeling melodic
invention. Liu’s guzheng playing is informed by her knowledge of xuanqin, duxianqin (one-string
zither), and Japanese koto, all under the umbrella of her multimedia performance art practice.
